Anxiety Therapist San Diego

Meet Tammy Brooks - Your Mental Health Therapist in San Diego

You’ve been feeling it for a while. This ick, this anxiety, this creeping feeling that you need a change and you need it now. On the surface, your life is ok, but underneath you feel like you are treading water, getting nowhere fast. And to be honest, you are feeling tired and starting to lose the energy to tread.

You are ready for a real change

You’ve tried a little meditation here and there. You go to the gym, you do the “self-care” but you seldom really feel good and content. You aren’t sure exactly what you need, if you need a counselor, a coach, a psychiatrist, or a psychologist. But, you know you need something, and you are tired of waiting to fully enjoy your life.

My name is Tammy, and I Can Help

Tammy Brooks is a psychotherapist offering anxiety and marriage counseling in San Diego, CA.

Frequently Asked Questions about Counseling in San Diego

  • According to most therapists, the recommended frequency for therapy is once a week as it provides a good balance between processing insights from sessions and maintaining consistent progress; however, the ideal frequency can vary depending on your individual needs and the severity of your concerns, and you should always discuss this with your therapist to determine what's best for you. I believe that once a week sessions allow us to really jump in, find the solutions, and get you graduated sooner than meeting less frequently or whenever you “need to talk.”

  • Is therapy covered by insurance? Many health insurance plans offer mental health care coverage, but not all therapists accept insurance—many require clients to pay the full fee “out of pocket.” When therapy is covered by insurance, the client will usually pay a “co-pay,” or portion of the fee. Although, I do not accept insurance, many clients pay my cash rate then have been able to use their PPO benefits for reimbursement with a special medical receipt. Call your insurance company to learn more about reimbursement rates.

  • The number of therapy sessions needed for anxiety depends on the type and severity of the anxiety, as well as the individual's needs. Therapy can range from 8 to 30 sessions or more, and may include maintenance sessions after the initial course. I find that most people may only need about 12 sessions on average and get to goals for therapy. Of course, this varies depending on the person and situation.

  • In your first therapy sessions, you'll talk about your reasons for coming to therapy. You'll talk about what's been going on in your life that is painful, difficult, or at least not working as well as you'd like. You'll talk about things you want to change and any goals you might have.

Our focus in our therapy sessions will move away from “problem” talk rather focus on “solutions” despite those problems.
